Coordinators
  Job description

Local Coordinators are postsecondary students responsible for a group of up to 10 participants and are hired by the Summer Work Student Exchange program. They report directly to their Regional Coordinator.

Coordinators are responsible for ensuring the program runs smoothly in their community, and for ensuring good relationships among participants, host families and employers.

a) Preparation phase

Local Coordinators are responsible for promoting the program to students 16 and 17 years of age living in their community, and encouraging them to participate in the program.

Coordinators visit applicants and their families at home, and select participants based on predetermined criteria, with support from the Regional Coordinator.

Coordinators are then responsible for finding appropriate jobs near the homes where the students will be staying.

With the Local Host, coordinators develop a program of activities for the students staying in their region over the summer.

b) Exchange phase

During the summer, coordinators are responsible for ensuring students are doing well with their host families, at their jobs and during activities. Coordinators strive to visit all participants at their homes and jobs at least once a week.

Coordinators are responsible for implementing weekend and weeknight activities.

Coordinators may also have to supervise travel to and from their home community.

c) After the exchange

During the week following the students' return home, coordinators must prepare a short report on the program in their community, and contact employers and local host organizations to ensure their reports have been correctly completed and submitted on time.

 Dates and salary

Although their schedules are flexible, coordinators must plan on working every weekend with the students. Coordinators work mostly on evenings and weekends with the participants, and establish their schedules with their Regional Coordinator.

Coordinators must be available at all times during the six-week exchange to deal with emergencies in their community.

a) Work period

The coordinator work period is from the beginning of April to the middle of August.  Coordinators will work 0.25 FTE (full-time equivalent) during the month of April (approximately 10 hours/week), 0.5 FTE during the month of May (approximately 19 hours/week), and full-time from the beginning of June to the middle of August (37.5 hours/week).

b) Pay
