The employer agrees to:
a) The job
Provide the hired student with the work described in the job description attached to the funding application.
On the first day of work, go over the job description with the student and provide all necessary safety training.
Provide the student with a job conducive to improving his or her second-language skills.
Maintain regular communication with the Local Coordinator.
b) Salary
Pay the student the provincial minimum wage as stipulated in the funding application.
Pay the student at the first available opportunity as defined by the employer’s pay schedule (preferably within two weeks of the student beginning work).
The employer pays the student only for the hours worked. If the student has to miss work for a few hours to attend activities organized by the coordinator, the employer can ask the student to make up those hours, or deduct them from the student's pay.
The employer will not pay the student for statutory holidays on which the student did not work unless required to by labour legislation.
The employer agrees to make the required employment insurance and worker's compensation deductions, and pay the student the required vacation pay.
c) Termination of student's employment and report
At the end of the six-week period, the employer will provide written confirmation of the total number of hours worked and amount paid to the student. Employers will be reimbursed once at the end of the summer, once this documentation has been received by the YMCA.
