Participants must be students aged 16 or 17. The main qualities we are looking for in participants are:
- Basic knowledge of their second official language
- Desire to practice and improve their second language skills
- Ability to adapt to new and different environments
- Willingness to respect and work collaboratively with their coordinator, host family, employer and other exchange participants
- Enthusiasm and desire to get the most out of this opportunity
- Whose family agrees to host a student
Selection process
Because the number of participants per community is limited, we encourage you to apply as early as possible. Participants will be selected on a first come, first served basis from among the pool of eligible candidates.
Once you apply for the program, your application form will be automatically forwarded to the Local Coordinator responsible for your community. The coordinator will contact you to arrange an interview by early May. The purpose of the interview is to ensure that you have the qualities required to get the most out of the program. The coordinator will then meet with your parents in your home to confirm that they agree to host a student for the summer.
When you come to the interview, please bring the following documents:
- One or two letters of recommendation from your school or an employer
- Your birth certificate or government ID showing proof of age
N.B.: For information on obtaining a social insurance number, go to http://www.sdc.gc.ca/en/gateways/topics/sxn-gxr.shtml
At the interview you will also be asked to sign the application form you
filled out on-line.
